The work of Dave Ronald’s I felt was more of a compromise due to the original idea been to portray a loss of communication with reels of paper coming from fax machines in the ceiling been a great idea. But due to it having to be changed to fit the space made it lose its impact I originally had from first seeing it. The way the work was changed in a way which meant it got simplified and restricted which came apparent, and resulted in the idea been a bit too weak for the space they intended to cover. The smoke and lights which had been added to boost the works effect were visually pleasing in their own right but I didn’t feel added any meaning to the work itself. Although I felt his views on collaboration were similar to what I had originally envisaged, with two people working in harmony as they both sacrifice their own ideas for a bit of give and take.
I felt that it was this idea of give and take which the work of Janis Rafailidou and Noah Sherwood her collaborative partner lacked, due to what I felt came down to each of them having a set idea of what they wanted to achieve as an end result before they started. Both wanting to do their own thing and expecting the other to jump on board and join them. This clash of personalities created a division which was evident within the work, as nothing had a constant theme which if they had worked together would have been evident. Although the work didn’t have what I would perceive as a perfect collaboration I felt that it helped to show me that collaboration between people with a common interest in creating art doesn’t always work, which if feel shows the way people in society are becoming more secluded from each other and are stuck in their own ways of doing what they want and not compromising with others.
